Coaching Guide Contents

  • PRACTICE PLANS …for an entire season, structured using a building block approach and a guide for which aspects of the game to teach first, and those to add later in the year.

  • SKILL BUILDING WARM-UP …Practice starts with drills that build fundamental baseball/softball skills. We get our players’ bodies hot, and minds on the game, before playing catch.

  • PLAYING CATCH PRACTICE …The most important part of a practice. We establish the mindset, discipline and skills, that determine the quality of the rest of practice - during this ‘Drill’.

  • DEFENSIVE RESPONSIBILITIES …What does a player do ‘when the ball is NOT hit to them’? …this system trains all nine players to identify their role in a play as soon as the ball comes off the bat.

  • DRILLS …Specific for the kid level of play and the small diamond. How to set-up and run dynamic drills where all kids are busy, learning and improving at all times.

  • BATTING PRACTICE …A dynamic activity (‘12-Player Drill’) that keeps each player on the field, active, working, learning and improving …no standing around waiting for your turn.

  • SCRIMMAGE …an important aspect of a complete practice. This is a fast-paced, learning activity that can be completed in 15-20 minutes as a conclusion to each practice.
